Class B8 flare 20081103 11:20 UTC

Observatory Location - Haslington, Crewe UK

Grid ref: SJ733556

Lon: 2:23:58W (-2.39943)
IARU: IO83TC23

Summary:

This B8 class flare is related to Sunspot 1007. No recorded changes to the earths magnetic field can be attributed to this event.

A 'B' class flare is a weak solar flare with an X-Ray flux of just less than 10^-6 w/m^2.

Method:

Indirect observation of the flare due to a SID (Sudden Ionospheric Disturbance) whilst monitoring a remote VLF transmitter. Changes in the ionospheric 'D' layer will cause either an enhancement or weakening of the received signal.

Equipment:

UKRAA VLF Receiver, 21.4kHz
Starbase Software reading RSP datafiles

Trace overlaid with GOES X-Ray Data.
