Rather than bore you with pictures of my house, I have shown some pictures produced by Jonathan Naylor's (G4KLX) excellent
UKWutils program for Linux. This suite is based upon Andy Talbot's (G4JNT) GEOG suite for DOS, but utilises a freely available heights
database that is world encompassing.
So......
This first image shows a 360 degree panorama from my QTH at IO83TC23.
As you can see there is a local rise in land height from North through to South through East. And that doesn't
include the 15m poplar and Scotch Pine trees in the same direction.
The second image shows a 3D map of the land in the immediate vicinity. The Pennine hills are to the East heading North and the Welsh
Mountains to the West

Finally, the third image is a plan view topography map. I live in NW England, the Black Square roughly marks the spot!
There are certainly much better locations than this for VHF/UHF and Microwave DX'ing. I wish I had this software when I was house hunting!
